Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection contains oral history interviews, most of which are on videotape. Links to transcripts are provided when transcripts are available online. The interviews were largely conducted by personnel associated with Randall Library, although there are a few subseries that contain donated or purchased interviews. Interviews cover a range of people, from various professions, walks of life, age groups, and areas of the country. Special Collections and UNCW Archives staff conduct oral history projects that are in keeping with the larger goal of oral history: to make historically visible those whose experiences are not reflected in traditional written sources and documentary evidence.

Series 1: Voices of UNCW
This series captures the history of the University of North Carolina at Wilmingon (UNCW) and Wilmington College through the oral histories of people who have been involved with the institution since its founding in 1947. Faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members and supporters are included. These are all visual oral histories, i.e., they are were recorded on videotape (mini-DV). Transcripts and VHS viewing copies are available.
