Title:
Interview with John B. Scales
Date:
February 25, 2004
Description:
John B. Scales was drafted into the Army in 1943. He served as a special escort guard for the military police until 1946. His duties consisted of maintaining control of prisoners of war while in Europe as well as maintaining that control while transporting them to the US. He vividly describes wartime Germany and France as well as details some of the interactions between guards and prisoners. Perhaps most interestingly he provides an account of supposedly the first live prisoner of war exchange that took place between Germans and Americans.
