Description:
James A. Scott  served in the U.S. Naval Reserve and National Guard prior to World War II. He enlisted for active duty in the U.S. Navy during September of 1943. He took officers' training at Northwestern University of Chicago, at Tower Hall and later in Solomons, Maryland. Scott saw action at Ang, south of Peleliu, Hollandia, New Guinea, and Leyte in the Philippines. He was present at the battles of Surigoa Straits, Okinawa, and Iwo Jima. At the end of the war, Scott was stationed at Lae Island on Bikini Atoll where he interviewed returning American prisoners of war.
