Description:
Sergeant Gene Doughty, born in Stamford, Connecticut, moved to New York City, where he finished high school and entered City College. He joined the Corps in 1943 and participated in the invasion of Iwo Jima. After his discharge in 1946, he earned a degree in Health and Physical Education from City College. He worked as a social investigator for the New York City Department of Social Services until 1954, then became a store manager for Vim Electric Company, a position from which he retired in 1969. In retirement, he has served both the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation and the Montford Point Marine Association in several positions. He resides in the Bronx, New York.
