Description:
Corporal Roland Durden, born and raised in Harlem, New York, completed high school and joined the Marines in 1943. He served in the Pacific, participating in the invasion of Iwo Jima, and was discharged in 1946. Returning to New York City, he held several positions during a career with the New York City Transit Authority, retiring in 1986 as Assistant General Superintendent. He lives in retirement in Security, Colorado.
